This was my original About Me page, but now things have changed a bit, so naturally my About Me section had to change as well. But I’m going to leave this here in case you readers are interested in the beginnings of my little ol’ blog. Have fun and keep on reading more!
¡Hola! ¿Comó estás?
First thing’s first, I’m Daniela…I’m a fresh college grad (holla!) heading off for an adventure in Spain! The purpose of this blog is to document my year in Spain as an au pair. I’m super duper excited for this adventure. Even though I will be on the other side of the world, away from my family and friends, living with an entirely new family, I can’t help but smile and pinch myself to see if this is all real…!
The more people I have told, the more similar questions I have gotten…so here’s a few of the more prominent ones all together for your enjoyment 🙂
1. Spain?! What how did you get that?
Well, it was actually pretty simple. I knew that I didn’t want to go to grad school just quite yet (frankly, I’m a little burnt out and I wanted to do something different). I did know that I wanted to travel, so I started there. I looked into teaching English overseas, and missions trips of that nature, all to no avail. There were a few prospects, but none felt right and I knew that they weren’t the right program for me. So I looked into something that I knew I was good at, being a nanny and taking care of little munchkins. That lead me to looking into being an au pair!
2. So you have a family in Spain? Do you know them?
Yes. I do have a family I will be living with and taking care of their two sweet kiddos. I got connected with them through an online website aupair-world.net. It’s an online hub for families looking for au pairs and those of us looking for families. And you can look at countries all over the world. It’s pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Way to go internet. And I’ve Skyped and emailed with my family and with their current au pair quite a bit over the past 2 months. By the time I “met” them, I had interviewed with a few other families and knew what I was looking for. We had easy conversation and within the next week, I accepted their offer to be their au pair.
3. Aren’t you nervous? You’ll be gone for a whole year?
Obvi. But that hasn’t hit me just quite yet. I feel like if you know me, you know that I have a huge travel bug. I just want to see the world! So despite the nerves, excitement is the overwhelming emotion I have at the moment. But ask me in a few months when I’m getting ready to fly to the other side of the world! 😉
I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to travel and go on an adventure. I wish you all could come with me!! (That is my invitation to come and visit. But really. Do it!) I can only imagine everything that the upcoming year will hold for me, but I honestly couldn’t be more excited. So here’s to a new and exciting chapter of life! Besos xox
